Runaway bride sues left-behind groom
The "runaway bride" who fled her lavish wedding in Georgia
last year has sued her former fiance, claiming he has been
capitalizing on their story. In court papers filed in
Gwinnett County, Jennifer Wilbanks says John Mason got a
power of attorney while she was in the hospital, sold the
story for $500,000 to Regan Media and used the proceeds
to buy a house, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
She wants her share of the money and a number of household
items. Wilbanks vanished last year and reappeared in
Albuquerque four days later on the day she and Mason had
been scheduled to tie the knot in Duluth, Ga. At first
she claimed to have been abducted but she later pleaded
guilty to lying to police and received a probationary
sentence. She also paid Duluth $13,000, about one-third
of the cost of the police search for her.
Ah, what a load of drama! Honestly...the things people get up to...and to think they were once planning on spending the rest of their lives with each other? *shurgs*.
